I put together this school, for a number of reasons:
Being a DJ is amazing, even if it’s just playing your favorite tracks at home, to playing packed events and everything in between. If you love music, being a DJ is the perfect creative outlet. I am grateful that I am in the position where I can share my greatest passion with so many people.
If you don’t have DJ equipment yet, don’t wait to buy the course. Trust me, there is plenty you can do without gear and the more prepared you are before hitting the decks, the quicker it will all come together. The most common mistake people make is waiting for their DJ gear to arrive and then when they get their gear they start to play and get discouraged as they have no idea what they are doing or they are developing bad habits. I honesty suggest, and I am not just saying this, start the course now as there is loads you can do on your computer before hitting the decks and then when you do get equipment you will be surprised how fast you pick it up.
It doesn’t matter what equipment you have as all DJ equipment and DJ software shares the same basic operations needed to DJ - you will learn that very quickly. In the very first section I break down all the basic operations needed to DJ that you will find on all DJ gear and I even have comparison videos just to show you how similar all gear and software is.
It really doesn’t matter what gear you have all you need is a desire to learn. I will take you from bedroom to clubs even if you have something very very basic. I like comparing learning to DJ to learning to drive. All cars pretty much do the same thing, so if you learn on a mustang there’s no reason why you won’t be able to apply what you know and drive any other brand of car. Sure some of the more expensive cars / DJ gear feel nicer and sound better but I know a tonne of people that have started on sub average gear that are now outshining every other DJ on every line up they play.

When doing one on ones in Sydney the first question I ask my students is “what genre do they wish to learn on” and their answers always fall into 3 main categories.
For this reason after we have nailed the foundations (with exercises featuring all of the above), I dive deep into all the above genres with examples on how to mix them all. For instance when mixing the deeper kinds of house it’s all about drawing out your transitions which means advanced EQ work, looping and FX, whilst mixing the heavier style of dance is more about maintaining energy and playing the bets parts of each track. However if you wish to play open format events you will learn how to make big BPM jumps and genre hop and also how to loop in tracks wth short intros. No matter what genre you’re into I have you covered and by the courses end you’ll know how to mix any genre and make all of your transitions work wether you know the track or not.
On YouTube people are always requesting I mix specific genres and the truth is some of these genres I have never mixed before. I simply take the methods I teach in my course and find I can apply them to everything. Youtube is a fantastic resource with more free tutorials than any individual is capable of watching on improving your DJ skills.

The only reason I personally gravitate around Rekordbox gear is because the majority, if not all, club gear is Pioneer and all Pioneer club gear only reads Rekordbox. However let’s say you have a Denon, Serato (which is another pioneer brand), Traktor or a Numark controller - IMO they are all the same the only real difference is, if you wish to play in clubs and use USBS, Rekordbox is the software used to prepare your music for USB. This though, does not have to be a big deal. You can still become a world class DJ using whatever gear you own, personally I grew up using Serato, and if you ever decide to make the jump to a club DJ, it will honestly be a piece of cake.
It’s funny as I have sold thousands of courses and always get videos from my students showing me what they are up to and some use Denon, others Pioneer, other Traktor, others Numark, the only constant is they are all applying the skills taught in the course and they all rave to me how their DJing has been transformed and have nothing but shouts and thanks to Club Ready DJ School.
